Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease that affects your central
nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). The actual case of multiple
sclerosis (MS) is not known but occurs in four main patterns:
Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS): in which
the person experiences a gradual decline in function without periods of
remission. This form is not as common and often comes on after the age
of 40.
Progressive Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis (MS): which is
Primary Progressive with periods of additional symptoms or worsened
existing ones. This form is very rare.
Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (MS): in which
the person has sudden flare-ups of symptoms followed by periods of
near-normal health which can last for months or even years! This form is
present in 70% of people diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS): in which
people with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis (MS) enter a period
of continual deterioration.
